Bettye Beatrice Smith, 92, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Batesville.

She was born May 15, 1931, in Weona to Sam and Havanna Hatley. In her younger years, she worked at the GE Plant in Jonesboro. She volunteered with Women’s Auxiliary at the Methodist Hospital and at the John T. Gray School. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she was loved by all who knew her, commonly known as "Nanny."  She had an exceptional green thumb, enjoyed multiple crafting activities, and absolutely cherished her grandbabies.

She was survived by her children, Steve Smith (June Jones) a.k.a. Smith & Jones, Charlotte Anne Smith, Tim Smith (Martha Wilson) and Tina Lee; grandchildren, Sonya Nicole Clayton, Corey James Clayton, Dorilee Lesure, Angela Graves, Hunter Smith, John Lee and Savanna Lee; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Graves, Rafe Flemon, Blake Ashcraft, Ty Williams, Cason Clayton, Cayla Lee Clayton and Jace Nolan Clayton; great-great-grandchild, Vanna Ashcraft; siblings, Norma Hatley and Dennis Hatley; former daughters-in-law, Julena Wilson and Leah Smith.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Ray Smith; siblings, Vaunita McCleskey, Fred Paul Hatley, Bud Hatley, Robert Hatley, Sammy Hatley, Jr., Roy Hatley, and Shirley Gardner. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:30am at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at noon Friday, March 1, 2024, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Interment will follow.
